How to use it
- Pick a group (faces, people, animals, food, objects, flags...) or search for the emoji by name, like "heart" or "pizza".
- Click the emoji: it is copied to your clipboard and added to the "Your text with the emojis" box.
- For emojis of people and hands, pick the skin tone in the selector first.
- Write around it if you like, click "Copy all" and paste it in WhatsApp, Instagram, Discord, email or a document.
What is here
- More than 1,850 emojis in 9 groups and 98 subgroups, in Unicode order: smileys and emotion, people and body, animals and nature, food and drink, travel and places, activities, objects, symbols and flags.
- Search by name in English, like "heart", "cat", "party" or "flag of Brazil".
- A skin tone selector for emojis of people, hands and gestures.
Skin tone
Emojis of people and hands come in five skin tones, besides the default yellow. Pick the tone in the selector above the list: the emojis that accept a tone change on the spot, and what you copy already carries the chosen tone.
Emojis that are not people, like animals and objects, do not change. When a device lacks the toned version, it may show the default emoji followed by a colored square.
Emojis on a computer and on a phone
On a computer, the emoji keyboard opens with Windows + period (Windows) or Control + Command + Space (Mac). Here you get the whole list, with search and skin tone, and copy with one click.
On an iPhone and on Android, use the emoji keyboard (the key with the smiley or the globe). To copy from a website into another app, this page is faster.
Why an emoji looks different from device to device
Unicode defines the meaning and the code of each emoji, but each company (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung) and each app draws its own. That is why the same emoji can look different on WhatsApp, on Instagram and on a computer.
This list follows Unicode up to version 15.1. Newer emojis are left out because they still show as a box on many devices.
Things to keep in mind
- Emojis are text characters, but the picture depends on the device: old devices may swap the newest ones for boxes.
- On many versions of Windows, country flags show as two letters (for example, BR) instead of the flag.
- Screen readers read the name of the emoji, so many emojis in a row get in the way of the people who use them. Use them as decoration, not to carry essential information.
- The list and the names follow Unicode (emoji-test) and CLDR, ยฉ Unicode, Inc.
