How to reduce an image to a size in KB
- Choose your images or drag the files into the box. They are not sent to any server: everything happens in your browser.
- Choose the maximum size (50, 100, 200 or 500 KB) or type another value.
- The tool adjusts the file instantly. Check the size under "After" and whether it is within the limit.
- Download each image or, with several, everything in one ZIP.
What the tool does to fit the limit
First, it looks for the highest quality that still fits the size you asked for, in JPEG or WebP. If the image does not fit even at a reasonable quality, the pixel dimensions shrink until it fits, instead of leaving the photo with strong artifacts.
The result shows whether it is within the limit, the quality used and whether the dimensions were reduced. If not even the lowest quality and the smallest size fit, the tool tells you the lowest size it reached.
When you need to reduce an image to KB
- Forms, applications and portals that accept files up to a certain size.
- Sending by email or messaging app with an attachment limit.
- Product images in stores and marketplaces with a per-photo size limit.
- Pages that need to load fast, with lighter images.
What this tool does not do
- It does not reduce PNG by quality: to use the maximum size, choose JPEG or WebP (lossless PNG has no quality control).
- It does not keep transparency in JPEG: transparent areas become white.
- It does not guarantee an exact size: the result is at or below the limit.
- It is limited by your device memory: up to 30 images at a time, 50 MB per file and 60 megapixels per image.
- It creates a new image without the original file metadata (such as EXIF).
Frequently asked questions about reducing an image to a size in KB
How do I reduce an image to 100 KB?
To reduce an image to 100 KB, add the image, choose 100 KB as the maximum size and download the result. The tool lowers the quality and, if needed, the dimensions until the file fits in 100 KB.
How do I reduce a photo to 50 KB?
Choose 50 KB as the maximum size. Because 50 KB is a low limit, large photos usually need smaller dimensions as well as lower quality; the tool tells you when that happens.
How do I reduce an image to 200 KB?
Choose 200 KB as the maximum size. Many photos fit in 200 KB just by adjusting the quality, without changing the dimensions.
How do I reduce an image to 500 KB?
Choose 500 KB as the maximum size. At 500 KB, most photos keep their dimensions and a high quality.
Can I choose another size, such as 30 KB or 300 KB?
Yes. Type the value in KB in the "Another value" field. The tool uses 1 KB = 1,024 bytes.
Does the image lose quality when reduced to KB?
Yes, some loss is unavoidable, because JPEG and WebP reduce size by discarding detail. The tool uses the highest quality that fits the limit and only reduces the dimensions if that is necessary.
What happens if the image does not fit the size I asked for?
The tool reduces the dimensions until it fits. If not even the lowest quality and a minimum size are enough, it shows the lowest size it reached and tells you the limit was not met.
Can I reduce a PNG to a size in KB?
PNG has no quality control. Choose JPEG or WebP as the output format to use the maximum size; transparent areas of the PNG become white in JPEG.
Can I reduce several images to KB at once?
Yes. You can add up to 30 images at a time, apply the same maximum size to all of them and download everything in a ZIP.
Is my image uploaded to a server when I reduce it to KB?
No. The processing happens in your browser and the file is not sent to any server.
