10 Spin-the-Wheel Prize Ideas for Online Stores

These ten spinning wheel prize ideas are for the wheel on an online store, a gamified pop-up where a spin earns the shopper a discount, a perk or a gift. They are not the branded giveaways of a trade-show booth. The ideas are grouped by the three reward types Popconvert offers (Percentage, Fixed Value and Text), and each one says when it fits, what to watch on margin and how to set it up.

How to Choose a Prize: Goal, Margin and Audience

Start with the goal: a first order calls for a prize usable right away (ideas 1 and 6), a bigger basket for a threshold reward (idea 4), a launch for something a discount cannot give (ideas 8 and 10).

Then margin. A percentage grows with the cart, a fixed value costs the same on every order, and a non-monetary prize costs shipping, stock or service delivery, which is why ideas 2 and 5 start from a worst case and 6 to 10 from a unit cost.

Audience comes last, because the Limits settings control who gets the wheel: Display Audience decides who sees it (new visitors or all traffic), and Replay decides whether the same email can play again. A welcome prize suits a new-visitor wheel, and a large prize is where Replay matters.

All ten ideas share one setup, covered in full on the Rewards help page: a simple flow for one coupon per prize, or a bulk flow for up to 5,000 unique codes where you can also set each prize's probability, the only place that option exists. A code cannot be reused across campaigns. Each idea below only adds what is specific to it.

Percentage Prize Ideas

A Percentage reward is a relative discount, such as 5%, 10% or 15%, and it scales with the sale.

1. A First-Order Welcome Percentage

What it is. A welcome code such as 10% off, offered on a wheel shown to new visitors only.

When it fits. Stores whose priority is a first order, since Display Audience can limit the wheel to first-time visitors.

Caution. The same percentage costs more on a large cart, so pick a value your thinnest-margin product can carry, and check whether it stacks with sitewide sales.

How to configure. Set Display Audience to new visitors. That setting decides who sees the wheel, not how many times a shopper can buy.

2. A Percentage Ladder With Different Chances

Percentage prizes at rising values, such as 5%, 10% and 15%, where a bigger discount means a rarer one. It suits stores that want a modest discount to be the common outcome and a large one the exception.

The catch. The rungs differ in chance as much as in value: a 15% prize as likely as the 5% one turns the ladder into a 15% giveaway. Price the top rung against a full cart.

Setup. Choose Percentage for each rung and set its value. Per-prize probability is documented for the bulk flow, so set it there: highest chance for the smallest value, lowest for the largest.

3. A Category-Limited Percentage

A code for one category or collection, such as winter jackets, works well for clearing overstock or steering shoppers toward a category with healthy margin. The limit itself belongs to the coupon in your platform, if it supports one, so name the category clearly in the pop-up text too. A winner whose cart gets rejected at checkout will feel tricked, so test the code on a mixed cart before launch.

Fixed-Value Prize Ideas

A Fixed Value reward is a straight discount, such as $10 or $50, paired with a minimum order so it doesn't fire on tiny carts.

4. A Fixed Amount With a Minimum Order

A prize such as $10 off, valid once the order reaches a minimum, works well for stores that already know their average order value and want to lift it.

The catch. A minimum below what customers already spend gives the money away. Set it above the typical order so the extra items pay for the discount, and check stacking with other promotions.

Setup. Choose Fixed Value, set the amount and the minimum order, and paste the coupon's code.

5. A High-Value Prize Kept Rare

One Fixed Value prize far larger than the rest gives catalogs with higher-priced items a prize worth chasing. Run it through the bulk flow, where each visitor gets a different single-use code and each prize carries its own probability, so give this one the lowest; that probability, not the discount amount, is what actually controls the payout. Since Popconvert coupons cannot be used outside the platform, keep this code out of ads and emails, and use Replay to decide whether the same winner can play twice.

Non-Monetary Prize Ideas

A Text reward is any prize that is not a discount; the help's examples are "Free Shipping", "Exclusive Gift" and "7-day free trial". If winners redeem one with a code, the code is created in your e-commerce platform and pasted into Rewards like any other. The help does not describe how a Text prize is delivered, so plan that step yourself.

6. Free Shipping

"Free Shipping" is the Text example the help center itself uses, and it fits stores where shipping is a visible line item at checkout rather than baked into the price. What it actually costs you is the carrier's real rate, which moves with weight and destination, so a heavy parcel to a distant address can end up costlier than just discounting it would have been; write the prize as "Free Shipping" and use the pop-up text to say which orders or destinations it covers.

7. A Gift With Purchase

A small gift from your own catalog, such as an "Exclusive Gift" that ships with the winner's order, is a good way to move slow-moving stock or cheap supplier miniatures you already have sitting in a warehouse. The real constraint is that a gift is inventory, not a code: if winners outnumber the units you set aside, you either disappoint some of them or buy more on short notice, so count your stock against your expected traffic before launch, not after. Name the gift and the purchase condition in the reward text so winners know what to expect.

8. Early Access to a Launch

First access to a new product or a restock, before the public, suits brands with regular drops and stores that would rather not discount.

The catch. The access has to exist before the wheel does. Decide how winners get in, through a code at checkout or an early link by email, and tie it to a real date; our guide to limited-time offers covers keeping a deadline honest.

Setup. State the date and the way in inside the reward text.

9. A Free Trial

"7-day free trial", the help's own Text example, fits businesses selling a subscription or a digital product, where the free period doubles as the sample. Because a trial is service delivered for free rather than a discount, decide with Replay whether the same email may claim it twice, and put the trial length and what happens when it ends directly in the reward text, including how to cancel.

10. An Exclusive Sample

Where idea 7 clears stock you already have, this one introduces something new: a small sample of a product the customer has not tried, shipped with the winner's order, to cross-sell a new line such as a flavor or scent. Each win adds the sample's cost and parcel weight, so limit it to one per order.

Setup. Name the sample and say it ships with the winner's order. No purchase threshold is attached.

How to Balance Prizes on the Wheel

A wheel offering the same 10% code on every slice gives shoppers nothing to hope for, and a wheel where every prize is generous is a bill. Work backward instead: decide the most you can afford to pay out on a single win, then set that prize's probability low enough to keep its cost reasonable across the whole campaign. The bulk flow's per-prize probability, the mechanism ideas 2 and 5 both lean on, is where that ratio actually gets set.

When you rebalance, keep at least one reward active: a campaign with no active reward is deactivated automatically.

Prize Ideas for In-Store and Event Wheels (QR Code)

A QR Code campaign is hosted by Popconvert, so it needs no website. The customer scans a code on a banner, package or display, the wheel appears, and the winner gets a digital coupon or prize on screen to redeem in the store or through a redirect to your e-commerce. Only the gamified pop-up is available.

That decides which ideas travel. Discounts 2, 3 and 4 work if your counter can honor the code, and a gift or sample (7 and 10) can be handed over on the spot. Ideas 1 and 5 lean on Limits settings (new visitors, Replay) that the QR help does not document for these campaigns, so verify them first. Free shipping, early access and a free trial do not fit a counter; use them only if the redirect sends the winner to your online store.

FAQ

What prizes can I put on a spin-the-wheel pop-up?
Three: Percentage (a relative discount), Fixed Value (a direct discount with a minimum order condition) and Text (non-monetary, such as free shipping). Every idea above uses one of them.

How do I keep wheel prizes from hurting my margin?
Price your most generous prize against your lowest-margin product, and check whether codes stack with your other promotions. For a large prize, the bulk flow gives each visitor a different single-use code.

Can different prizes have different chances of winning?
Yes, in the bulk unique-coupon flow, where you set each prize's probability. The help documents it only for that flow.

Do I create the coupons in Popconvert?
No. You create the coupon in your e-commerce platform and paste its code into the Rewards tab. A batch of unique single-use codes is exported from the platform as a .TXT file instead.
