JPEG has no transparency: transparent areas become white. It is the most compatible and is usually light for photos.

Your image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to a server.

How to convert an image

  1. Choose your images or drag the files into the box. They are not sent to any server: everything happens in your browser.
  2. Pick the output format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
  3. If you pick JPG or WebP, adjust the quality. The lower it is, the smaller the file, with some loss of detail.
  4. Check the size under "Before" and "After" and download. With several images, download everything in one ZIP.

JPG, PNG or WebP: which to choose

  • JPG: the most compatible and, for photographs, usually light. It has no transparency: transparent areas become white.
  • PNG: lossless and keeps transparency. Suited for logos, icons and graphics; for photographs the file is usually much heavier.
  • WebP: usually smaller than JPG and PNG with a similar look, and supports transparency, but some older programs cannot open it.

What changes and what stays the same

The dimensions in pixels stay the same. What changes is how the image is stored: the format, the compression and, as a result, the file size.

Converting does not improve the image. A JPG converted to PNG gains no detail and no transparency: it is simply stored without further loss, and the file is usually larger.

When a PNG with transparency is converted to JPG, the transparent areas become white

When converting makes a difference

  • Uploading a photo to a platform that only accepts JPG or PNG.
  • Reducing the weight of product images by swapping PNG for JPG or WebP.
  • Opening the image in a program that cannot read WebP or AVIF.
  • Keeping the transparency of a logo by exporting it as PNG or WebP.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not convert iPhone HEIC photos, GIF, SVG, BMP, TIFF or PDF: it accepts PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF (AVIF depends on your browser being able to open it).
  • It does not keep animations: the result is a still image.
  • It does not upload the file to a server, so there is no sign-up or account limit: the limit is your device memory (up to 30 images at a time, 50 MB per file and 60 megapixels per image).
  • It produces a new image, without the metadata of the original file (such as EXIF).

Questions about converting images

How do I convert an image online?

To convert an image online, add the file to the tool, choose the output format (JPG, PNG or WebP) and download the result. The size before and after is shown on screen.

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

To convert PNG to JPG, add the PNG, choose JPG as the output format, adjust the quality and download. Because JPG has no transparency, transparent areas of the PNG become white.

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

To convert JPG to PNG, add the JPG and choose PNG as the output format. PNG does not lose quality when written, but the conversion does not recover detail the JPG already lost, and the file is usually larger.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

To convert WebP to JPG, add the WebP file, choose JPG and download. JPG is accepted by practically any program and platform, and the image keeps the same dimensions.

How do I convert AVIF to JPG or PNG?

Add the AVIF file, choose JPG or PNG and download. If your browser cannot open AVIF, the tool tells you the format is not supported.

Does converting an image reduce its quality?

It depends on the output format. JPG and WebP use lossy compression: the lower the quality you pick, the more detail is lost. PNG does not lose quality when written, but starts from an image that may already have been compressed.

Does converting change the size of the image in pixels?

No. The width and height stay the same. If you need to change the dimensions, use the image resizer.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. To keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. You can convert up to 30 images at a time, with the same output format, and download them all in a single ZIP file.

Is my image uploaded to a server when I convert it?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and the file is not uploaded to any server.

Does the tool convert iPhone HEIC photos?

No. The tool accepts PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF. Photos in HEIC format are rejected.
