How to convert JPG → PNG

  1. Choose your JPG images or drag the files into the box. They are not sent to any server: everything happens in your browser.
  2. The output format is already set to PNG. PNG has no quality control: it is saved without any new loss of detail.
  3. Check the file size under "Before" and "After". The pixel dimensions stay the same.
  4. Download each image or, with several, everything in one ZIP.

What changes (and what does not) when you convert JPG to PNG

PNG stores the image without any new loss of detail. But converting JPG to PNG does not improve the image: the details JPG already lost stay lost and the compression noise is still there.

It also does not create transparency: the photo background remains part of the image. Cutting out the background takes an image editor; this tool does not remove backgrounds. Because PNG does not compress photographs as well, the file is usually larger than the source JPG.

A JPG converted to PNG: the same pixels, no quality gain, in a larger file

When converting makes sense

  • Sending the image to a program or platform that requires PNG.
  • Saving an image without applying a new lossy compression every time you edit it.
  • Preparing a design that will be edited later and exported again.
  • Standardizing a set of images in a single format.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not remove the background or create transparency: the PNG has the same background as the JPG.
  • It does not convert iPhone HEIC photos, GIF, SVG, BMP, TIFF or PDF: it accepts PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF (AVIF depends on your browser being able to open it).
  • It does not keep animations: the result is a still image.
  • It is limited by your device memory: up to 30 images at a time, 50 MB per file and 60 megapixels per image.
  • It creates a new image without the original file metadata (such as EXIF).

Frequently asked questions about JPG to PNG

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

To convert JPG to PNG, add the image to the tool, check that the output format is PNG and download it. The conversion happens in your browser, without sending the file to a server.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG does not bring back details that the JPG already lost. The conversion only stores the image without a new loss, and the file is usually larger.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. The image background stays the same. To make the background transparent you need to remove it in an image editor; this tool only changes the format.

Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?

Because PNG does not use lossy compression and, for photographs, that produces much larger files. The size appears under "Before" and "After" so you can compare.

When is it worth converting JPG to PNG?

When the destination requires PNG, when you will edit and save several times without recompressing with loss, or when you need to standardize formats. If the goal is a light file, keep the JPG or use WebP.

Can I convert several JPG files to PNG at once?

Yes. You can add up to 30 images at a time, convert them all and download everything in a ZIP.

Do I lose quality when converting JPG to PNG?

Converting to PNG adds no loss of detail, but it does not recover what the JPG already lost. The result looks the same as the original.

Is my JPG image uploaded to a server?

No. The JPG to PNG conversion happens in your browser and the file is not sent to any server.
